Tony Graves
Tony Graves is a Joint Managing Director of Citycover with over 25 years in the industry.
Starting his career straight from school Mr Graves joined the Dunedin Branch of Royal Insurance New Zealand.
In 1985 Mr Graves arrived in Australia to secure a Broking role at an Insurance Brokerage based in Archerfield Brisbane.
Having experienced both Domestic and Commercial covers and claims in his previous role helped in assisting the change from insurer to broker which led to forging many relationships with insurance company representatives that still exist today.
In 1988 another change in direction saw Mr Graves being appointed as the Queensland representative for an English based company in the new field of Insurance Premium Funding.Over the next two years Mr Graves established S H Lock as the preferred premium funder for many Insurance Brokerage firms and their clients within Queensland.
1990 saw S H Lock withdraw from this market in a restructure of the Australian entity which had been effected by the recession of the time.
This move led to Mr Graves establishing a 5 year relationship with Centrepoint Finance which assisted his clients and established Centrepoint Finance as the leading premium funder in the state.
Mr Graves felt a need to return to Insurance Broking and in 1995 took on a new business role which led to a decision to satisfy the desire to direct his own future.
This was achieved under the banner of D F McGarry and Associates who under the Directorship of Dermot McGarry were recognised locally as a strong integrity based metropolitan brokerage.
This was the basis for a successful partnership which led to Mr Graves becoming a director in 2000.
2007 saw the retirement of Dermot McGarry and two important new partnerships emerged.
Mark Sandow joining the business as a joint managing director along side Mr Graves and the decision for the business to join the Austbrokers network (Austbrokers Holdings Limited).
The retirement of Clayne Sargant from Citycover (Aust) Pty Ltd in 2008 provided an opportunity for Mr Graves and Mr Sandow to purchase this brokerage which was another successful business within the AHL Group.
2009 saw yet another purchase of the Scarborough Insurance Brokers portfolio which completes the business as we know it today.
